Fire Fire

Had a fire drill at the company today and all in the office took a grand total of 7 minutes to evacuate and gather at the assembly area. Not sure if this is good, but we were sure strolling our way out.

At the ex company where we were surrounded by petroleum, there was always a joke going around whenever we had a fire drill. If there truly was a fire, it really wasn't wise to hang around the compounds. Because if the fire spreads to the storage tanks, the explosion will be enough to kill all of us within the compounds. Hmmm.... so why gather huh?? And gather in the car park till attendance is marked? Wouldn't it make more sense if we just hop into the car and drove our asses as far as possible?

On this issue, there was once when I was having dinner at Suntec City when the fire alarm suddenly went off. No announcement to inform that this is a drill or anything. The alarm just went off and continued for a good whole 10 minutes. For the whole time, not a single person left their seats and their half eaten food to evacuate. Which leads me to think, a fire alarm is meant to alert peeps in the building that there is a fire somewhere in the building and you should evacuate right? But are Singaporeans so complacent and confident that such things wouldn't happen and it has bound to be an accidental trigger? Anyway, I was one of those many who still had my nose buried in my bowl of hot ban mian and at about the 11th minute, the alarm stopped. It was a false alarm after all.

Friends

Friends. A delicate form of relationship which is so important in our already very screwed up lives. I have been blessed with great friends and buddies whom I can count on should I ever need help. Hopefully, I am also a friend to someone whom they know that they can turn to as well.

Not going to mention names here because, it's just not necessary. You will know if you're reading this.

The Listening Ear
The very important friend whom I will want to call or see when everything else falls apart. Not necessarily the one whom I hang out with the most or the one whom I party the most with. Just someone who will crawl out of bed to meet me and provide me with a listening ear and a crying shoulder. Someone who will offer me help when I need it even if I didn't ask for it.

The Playmate
The friend who goes clubbing with me, hangs out at coffee joints and prata shops with me. My mahjong kaki or buffet partner. The one whom I call on a boring and lazy Saturday evening. The one whom I go spas, mani & pedi sessions and Genting with. Bonding is having fun.

The Buddy
The guy friend whom I can count on when I need a drink. The one whom I play cards with and hang out over beer. The friend whom I know will pat my back when I'm puking my guts out next to the drain. The friend whom will ensure that I get home safe and sound. The friend whom I share ciggies with all the time!!

The Family Friend
The friend who hangs out most at my place. The friend whom I hang out most at her place. I see their family more than I see mine. I am present in most if not all of their birthday celebrations including their father, mother, brother, sister.... dogs....??

The When I am Needed Friend
The friend who only calls or asks you out only when they need you. Either as a chaperon to a new delicate relationship with a mutual friend or for a listening ear after the relationship ends. The friend who takes things for granted when it comes to organising meet ups especially when it's them who suggested it.

The I don't Give A Damn Friend
The friend whom don't really give a damn about what others think of them. The friend who doesn't put in much effort in maintaining relationships and friendships. The friend whom I tried so hard to be careful with my words because of certain sensitive issues. The friend who told me in the face not to judge her.


Maybe most of my friends fall into more than one of the categories above. Maybe I myself fall into more than one of those for some of them as well. All I am hoping is that I am never the last 2 to anyone. Though I have been treated the way which I hate, it's still a learning curve for me. Knowing how certain friends are and how to handle different relationships with different peeps.

And since I am on this topic, I wanna make this clear. We all have different views on different stuff in life. As a friend, I would stand by my best mates when they need me even if I don't agree with the path they chose. But me not agreeing doesn't mean I judge. I am in no position to judge anyone and will not do so either.

But to put things plainly, why have an issue about other peeps judging you when you have made your choice? It's your life, live it the way you want. I don't give a damn...........

Phew!!! That felt good.

2 Year Old Toddler

My 2 year old toddler has been up to lots of mischief and traffic accidents.

He has started to discover the joys of speeding down the LEE highway which basically circles the sofa set in my living room. At the maximum speed of about 10km/hr, he races with glee as he makes his finale move of banging into the wall/sofa with his vehicle head on. We would probably need either a helmet for him soon or a new set of sofa.

The maid found him sticky, wet and awfully happy and laughing away last week when she was done washing the master bed room toilet and came out to the living room. My 2 year old had decided to bath himself with his packet of UHT milk. He had poured the contents out and onto his head as he watches in amusement when the milk starts to drip down his body.

How much more fun can parenting get? In this case, I think he's having more fun than us or is is having fun with us??

Nothing much to blog about except that I am aching all over now after yesterday's badminton session.

It's good to have happy kids. And my little boy's favourite word of the month is "no" and "don't want". Terrible twos, hopefully it'll be over soon.

Change Is Out Of Sight

Some things and some people will never change.

Alone and hungry and waiting. No phone call, no SMS and no food in sight.

It's really ok if you cannot make it. But it's not ok when you don't even have the basic courtesy to notify.

And no, saying sorry doesn't mean it never happened. Saying sorry doesn't make me feel any better.

Thanks for making me understand you a little better once again.

8th Year Wedding Anniversary

It's our 8th wedding anniversary today. Happy anniversary to us.

Achievement Day

Attended Yun Yi's Achievement Day yesterday at her school. The day when they recognise the student's outstanding performance and hardwork for the past year.



Yun Yi had a chance to go on stage to receive a small prize in recognitaion of her hard work and good results this year. Brought her for ice-cream after the ceremony as it ended early.



Please, allow me to be a little proud of my little girl here on my personal blog. For her final combined results she scored all Band 1 and A's, topped her class in her mathematics paper and came in 2nd in class position. I am more than proud of her and she should really be proud of herself.

It's a good start for her first year at primary school. Not going to be that easy next year because they have already started to seperate them into different classes based on the student's performance. Thus in short, she'll be placed with all the other better performing student's in the same class come next year.

Good luck and work hard my little girl. You have no idea how happy and proud you've made us.

China Trip

Long long long overdue China trip updates. Not a very exciting trip as it was mainly business with only about a very rushed half a day in Xiamen for some sight-seeing before my domestic flight to Shanghai.



Dogs on the way to the restaurants to be made into their local delicacy. But I didn't get a chance to try the famous dog meat though, only had pigeon. The poor bird.

From the coast of Xiamen, you can actually see the Big and Small "Jin Men Islands" of Taiwan. Which brings us to a very interesting fact..........



On the left is what's on China land facing Taiwan. On the right is what's on Taiwan land facing China. Interesting eh?



Went visiting the very famous "Nan Pu Tuo" temple in Xiamen.



The compound is rather large and you can actually climb the stairs uphill to reach the peak of the temple and take in the beautiful scenery from up there. But we didn't have enough time nor energy to do so thus gave it a miss.

Finally landed on "Gu Lang Yu" island which is a very famous island just a few minutes off the coast of Xiamen. This island has totally no commercial vehicles and no land or houses is for sale anymore. On this small island, there used to be more than 10 foreign embassies which makes it home to a rich cultural mix and interesting architectural designs.

Picture on the right is actually a Banyan Tree. You know, the kind we see pretty often in Singapore which has it's hanging roots which looks like beard hanging from above. This is a very old tree and after a long time combined with the right growth conditions, the roots actually fuse together and become thick vertical roots which grows back right into the grounds.



Back in the old days many decades ago, alot of Chinese immigrants actually came back to this island to build villas and mansions after they strike it rich. So you can actually see a few of such villas and mansions now as a few of it has been converted into museums and exhibition halls to showcase the rich history of this small little island.

The night lights in Shanghai. I had no time to shop at all!!!!!!!! I am so deprived.

Visited 3 factories in during my 4 day stay in China. So tiring because of the long car rides to the outskirts during the factory visits. But food was good and the weather was fantastic. But will I pay to go back again? Nah!!



Home is still the best.

Doggy Affair

Brought Yun Yi to Pasir Ris last weekend when Sabrina went shopping for some doggy stuff in preparation for Lazy's move to her place. The dog in one of the store was HUGE!!! Yun Yi was hesitant about touching him initially but was soon brave enough to do so when she realised he was a gentle beast after all.

Yun Yi really wanted a dog badly and I did promise her that I will get her one if does well in her exams next year. We'll see........

Nothing More Than A Pretty Face

Was hoping that she was more than a pretty face.

Was hoping that her brains were at least half the size of her breasts.

Was hoping she wasn't as irritating and fake as her make-up.

Was hoping she wouldn't drive me nuts.

I am so wrong. Please, somebody hold me, I am going to strangle her alive soon if this goes on.

My Little Girl

Yun Yi was so excited and happy after school yesterday. Got the results for some of her paper yesterday. First thing she told me was that she got 100/100 for her mathematics paper and she's the only one the her class to have gotten full marks.

She did well for her Chinese and English too. So now just have to wait for her final results which combines her earlier exam results. I am so proud of her, I really am. Will get her a pressie as a reward and yes, will get her something she likes and not something which is just educational.

I Just Want To be Happy

Why is it so difficult?

I just don't want my emotions to be controlled by another person's actions. I just want to be happy.

I want:
- to be cared and loved
- to be needed
- to be wanted
- to be doted
- to be hugged
- to be kissed
- to be supported
- to be pleasantly surprised
- to be able to depend on you
- to be able to trust you
- to be able to open up to you
- to be happy
- words and actions of affirmation

I do not want:
- to be hurt
- to have to ask for what I want
- to always have to take initiative
- to worry
- to be unimportant
- to plan and decide all the time
- change for the sake of change

Don't think it's too much to ask for. But somehow, it has proven to be mission impossible for some. I had given enough time and thought. Now it's your turn.

Happy 2nd Birthday - Yong Ye

It was my little boy's 2nd birthday yesterday. Time flew by the past 2 years as my little darling grew so much and gave us so much fun and laughter.

It seems just like yesterday when he popped and when he turned one.



Wanted to get a bigger cake which had a car on it but it was sold out!! So we made do with a much smaller one since we all had an overdose of cake from last week anyway.



Well, he was more interested in the car rather than the cake!

Trying to figure out what we bought him. A shape sorter.



His aunt bought him a toy aeroplane which is really noisy!!! Think the toy will last him a grand total of about 3 days before he breaks something.
